Created the border between the United States and Canada. The United States negotiated with Britain to end the Canadian border despute. They compromised to make the 49th Parallel the border. -

The Greeks gained their independece through a war. They were freed from the Ottoman Empire. Almost all of the Greeks craved some sort of independence, so when they banned together they had a reason to fight. -

This was a conflict between the Second French Empire and the German states of the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia. This conflict as caused by Prussian ambitions to extend German unification. -
First Republic of Spain Declared
Once Spain had been declared a rpublic, the Consitituent Cortes and the radicals turned on each other. The radicals were largely driven from power. This republic only lasted eleven months. -
Brazil Officially Declared a Republic
After Brazil was declared a republic, it was a constitutional democracy from 1889 to 1930. Although, the elections were actually rigged and people were pressured to vote for certain candidates. -
New Zealand Becomes the First Country to Allow Women to Vote
Governor Lord Glasgow signed the Electoral Bill making New Zealand the first country to allow woment to vote. This bill was the result of years of suffragette meetings. Women first went to the poles in November of 1893. -
