During this time period Britain and France were two of the most powerful countries in Europe ,so they so competed for more power and money.This caused problems between British and French colonists in America.This only got worse whenever British colonists began wanting to use the Ohio river valley as their own territory. -

The Six Nations
In the East the Iroquuois Confederacy was the most powerful Native American group.It was originally five nations of Native American groups then the Tuscarora joined.After that the English called them the Six Nations. -
Hostility
In the 1740's problems between Britain and France became even worse.British colonists built a fort in Pickawillany,which the French quickly attacked which drove the british out of Ohio.In addition to this the French started to raid in maine and New York.People from New England captured a French Fortress but Britain had to return it. -
Iroquois Confederacy
The Iroquois Confederacy was put under pressure by the British and became their allies.This messed up the balance that they had created with the British and France. -
Ohio Valley
The Govenor of Virginia sent George Washington to deliver a message to the French.They sent him because the French had trespassed on Great Britains land.The French replied that they were going to use the land. -
Fort Necessity
Washington got sent back to the Ohio country with a militia with orders to build a fort where the Ohio river forms.When they got there they found a French fort already there.Washington attacked the French though they lost against them. -
Meeting of the Colonies
The representatives of the colonies meet in New York to talk about the threat of war by the French.they also wanted to get the Iroquois to help the British.They were not able to unite the colonies.Soon would come the French and Indian war.
