The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought by carrier aircraft (planes which take off and land on battleships) and resulted in a draw on both sides. This event was important because the Allies were encouraged and gained strength from this battle. -

The Battle of Midway was the Japanese attack of U.S fleet st Midway Island. This event became the most important battle in the Pacific and is a turning point in the war because all of the Japanese aircraft carriers and over 253 battle planes were destroyed. -

The Battle of Guadalcanal was for American possession of the Guadalcanal air base and became a turning point in the war. When the Japanese arrived they were badly outnumbered.This event was important because America needed control of the sea lines of communication between the United States and Australia. -

Axis Forces surrender in Tunisia ending the North African campaign. Materials such as oil were very valuable to the Axis Powers and were found in the Middle East and Asia. This event is important because the surrender removed the threat to the oilfields from the Axis Forces. -
