Raelynn (age 9) won the spelling bee she practiced so hard for. She wanted to do the best she could and win the prize of a pizza party for her class. In Erikson's fourth stage, industry vs inferiority, the crisis is between developing a sense of pride for ones accomplishments and abilities or not feeling like one is capable of doing what their peers can do and feels lesser then. -
Raelynn standing up for herself: Identity vs role confusion
Raelynn (age 18) has played softball her entire life but has lost the love of the sport her parents want her to play so she can get a scholarship for college. However she decides to quit and to start working so she can pay for college and become a nurse. In Erikson's fifth stage, identity vs role confusion, the crises is between establishing a sense of self and figuring who you are or not being able to fit in and be who you truly are.
