Manchurian Crisis
Manchuria was part of China but the railway was controlled by Japan. However, Japan wanted full control over Manchuria, which led to Japan's attack. This was the first challenge by Japan against the League of Nations. At 1933, Japan ignores protest from League of Nations and leaves. -
America cracks secret Japanse Code
At October 1940, America cracks secret codes that the Japanese were using to send messages. This allowed America to find out the Japanese's tactics and plans for South-east Asia. This threatened the America controlled lands, so in July 1941 Roosevelt cuts off oil shipments to Japan. (These events slowly dragged America into the war) -
The Bombing of Pearl Harbor
Within two hours, the Japanese sunk and damaged over 19 ships. More than 2,300 Americans were killed with 1,100 wounded. This was the true turning point of America's involvment with World War II. President Roosevelt declared war on Japan and its allies -
Japanese Victories
Guam and Wake eventually fell into the hands of Japan, and the Japanese marched up into the Philippines capital of Manilla. American and Filipino soldiers took defensive stances while the Philippine government move to the island of Corregidor. However, this island also falls in the hands of Japan. -

This battle was a great change of tide of WWII in the Pacifics. The Japanese began to attack islands. When the Japanese aircrafts started to get into air, the American planes cleared the planes. This tactic was very useful. American forces defeated the Japanes in the Central Pacific. This changed the tide because this battle stopped Japan from advacing and destroyed Japan's ability to attack. -

For six month of fighting on land and sea, the American drove the Japanese out of the Pacific island of Guadalcanal. The Japanese lost over 24,000 out of 36,000 men. -
