Bataan Death March
The American and Fillipino troops that were forced to surrender to the Japanese had to march from the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula to Camp O'Donnell. When separated into groups, this journey took about 5 days. Because the Japanese had little respecto for those who surrendered instead of dying for their country, they treated the marchers harshly by giving them no water and little food. -
Battle of Coral Sea
A major naval battle between the Japanese navy and the United States and Australia naval and air forces. The Japanese invaided Tulagi where they were suprised by the damage caused by the US fleet carrier, Yorktown. The Japanese entered the COral Sea looking to get back on the Americans. The Americans had two ship on either sides of the Japanese ship and fighting continued for two days.This was the first battle in which aircraft carries engaged each other. -
Battle of Midway
The Japanese had been fighting very offincivly through WWII when they planned to capture Midway to use as a naval base and to destroy the US Pacific Fleet. The United States had successful communication intellegence and were able to surprise the Japanese and sink four of their carriers while only losing one of their own. This Battle allowed the US to fight a more offensive war. -
Battle of Stalingrad
The Russian's cut off and surrounded the German 6th Army at Stalingrad. the 6th Army was cold, without food, and they were bombarded. Withough outside help the 6th Army had to surrender or they died. This is one of the bloodiest battles and the Germans were never able to make a large enough recovery to win the war. -
Battle of El Alamein
An attack, led by British General Bernard Montgomery, that, with the help of several million American Sherman tanks, pushed the enemy back to Tunisia. -

Battle of the Bulge
In a last attempt, Hitler threw everything he had at the Americans in the Ardennes Forest. The American commander, General A.C. McAuliffe, refused to surrender and rushed up reinforcements . The reinforcements found one undemolished bridge that they were able to cross and carry on to Berlin. -
