Missouri Compromise
The Missouri Compromise regulated slavery in the Western territories. It did this by prohibiting slavery north of a specific line the exception being Missouri. This was a cause of the civil war due to the fact that it was easier for settlements to allow slavery and this was not acceptable for anti-slavery supporters. -

Bleeding Kansas
This is a period of violence from 1854-1861 while the Kansas territory was being settled. The citizens, using popular sovereignty, voted on whether they wanted it to be a slave state or a free state. This was unfair due to voting laws at the time and people would "cheat" the system. -
Creation of the Republican Party
The Republican party came about to combat the Kansas Nebraska Act. The party had almost no support in the south but was able to gain a good amount of Whig and Free Soil Democrat’s support.
