Azaria Goes Missing
At roughly 8pm, 9 week old, Azaria Chamberlain, goes missing from her tent whilst camping with her family at Uluru. At 8:25pm, the park ranger, Mr Derik Roff arrived followed shortly by Constable Morris, who organised a search party of approximately 250-300 people search the area north, south and east of the tent. The search was called off at 3:00am. The bloodied items were taken by the police but not of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain (mother and father). -

Jumpsuit found
A tourist finds the torn jumpsuit, booties, singlet and nappy near a dingo’s lair with the jumpsuit only slightly torn and bloody. -
First Inquest
The first inquest to Azaria Chamberlains death begins in Alice Springs -
Azaria declared dead
The coroner, Denis Barritt, declared that Azaria Chamberlain had been killed by a dingo, however someone has interfered with the clothing of Azaria. -
Findings Revoked
The Supreme Court of the Northern Territory revoked the findings of the first inquest -
The Second Inquest
The second inquest begins in Darwin. -
New Evidence
As the court heard new forensic evidence, particularly about bloodstains, the coroner Gerald Galvin, made the parents go on trial for the death of their daughter. -
Found Guilty
The Chamberlain’s are found guilty with Lindy being sentenced to jail for life whilst her husband, who was found guilty of assisting his wife with the murder, was suspended sentenced for 18 months. -
Matinee Jacket Found
Azaria’s matinee jacket was found by a tourist at Uluru partially buried in the dirt. -
Released
Lindy Chamberlain is released from prison on remission. -
Pardon to the Chamberlains
A royal commission recommends clearing the Chamberlains of all guilt. Later that year the NT administrator pardons both of the Chamberlains. -
Declared Innocent
NT Court of Criminal Appeal declares the Chamberlains innocent of all criminal convictions. -
Compensation
The NT government pays the Chamberlains $1.3 million compensation, $396 000 for legal costs and $19 000 for their car which was dismantled for evidence. -
Third Inquest
Coroner John Lowdes opens a third inquest as he cannot determine the cause of Azaria’s death. -
Apology?
Lindy Chamberlain calls for the case regarding her daughter’s death to be closed and requests an official apology from the NT government. -
Killed by a Dingo
The forth coronial inquest finds that the result of Azaria’s inquest was that she was taken and killed by a dingo.
