Dalton Model
Dalton's model was based on the idea that matter is made of atoms; atoms can't be divided or destroyed, atoms of one element are identical, atoms of diffrent elements combine to form compounds in simple whole numbers, and can't be created nor destroyed. -
Thomson Model
Thompson explained emission lines by assuming his electrons were trapped in a continuous blob of positive charge, like negative plums in a positive pudding. However, there was no way he could explain the precise wavelength patterns emitted by particular elements. -
Hantaro Nagaoka
Nagaoka developed an early, incorrect "planetary model" of the atom. The model was based on the stability of Saturn's rings. -
Gold Foil Experiment
Rutherford tested Thomson's hypothesis by devising his "gold foil" experiment. Rutherford reasoned that if Thomson's model was correct then the mass of the atom was spread out throughout the atom. -
Ernest Marsden
He discovered the existence of the atomic nucleus. He discovered this by using the Gold Foil Experiment or the Rutherford Experiment. -
Rutherford Model
Theorized that atoms have their positive charge concentrated in a very small nucleus. He pioneered the Rutherford model of the atom, with his discovery and interpretation of Rutherford scattering in his gold foil experiment. -
Bohr's Model
In the Bohr Model the neutrons and protons occupy a dense central region called the nucleus, and the electrons orbit the nucleus much like planets orbiting the Sun. -
Henry Mosely
Moseley's law advanced atomic physics. He did this by providing the first experimental evidence of Niels Bohr's theory. -
Louis de Brogile
He developed a theisis of important findings. It served as the basis for developing the general theory now known by the name of wave mechanics, a theory which has utterly transformed our knowledge of physical phenomena on the atomic scale. -
Manhattan Project- Niels Bohr
He was part of the British team of physicists working on the Manhattan Project. -
Electron Cloud Model
The region of negative charge surrounding an atomic nucleus that is associated with an atomic orbital. The electron cloud model is an atom model wherein electrons are no longer depicted as particles moving around the nucleus in a fixed orbit. Instead, as a quantum mechanically-influenced model, we shouldn’t know exactly where they are, and hence describe their probable location around the nucleus only as an arbitrary ‘cloud’.
