Lexington and Concord
In the early hours of April 19, 1775, Britan's General Gage sent out British troops locatated in Boston . Sent out to Lexington, the British soldiers were to capture Colonial leaders Sam Adams and John Hancock, then to Concord to sieze gun powder. "The Brisitish are comming, the British are comming!" -
Second Continetal Congress
In May 1775, the Second Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia. The men conversed about dealing witht the British army, as a result the Continential Army was created. George Washington, Supreme commander, worked for no pay in order for supplies to be obtained. -
Bunker Hill
June 17, 1775, early in the Revolutionary War (1775-83), the British defeated the Continential Army at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. -
Declaration of Independence
In June, 1776 Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Benjamin Franklin were put to the task of writting a declaration of independence from Britian. The day it was finished, July 4, 1776, became known as "Fourth of July" and is celebrated yearly. -
Battle of Trenton
This battle was George Washington trying to protect the Delaware
River. With so few soldiers, Washington retreated. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the Revolutionary War for the British. General John Burgoyne used a plan called "Divide-and-Conquer". -
Winter at Valley Forge
The Winter at Valley Forge was a depressing time for the colonies. The British had taken over Philedalphia, the largest colonie, Vally Forge was a string of multipul battles through out the summer as well. -
John Paul Jones Captures Serapis
September 23, 1779 John Paul Jones won over the American waters againsts the Serapus. -
Battle of King's Mountain
The British faught against American Loyalists for South Carolina. -
British surrender at Yorktown
On this date, General Charles Cornwallis Surrrendered to the Americans. -
Treaty of Paris Ratified
On this day, the Congress of Confederation ratified the Treaty of Paris, a document that formaly ended the Revolutionary War. -
