Christopher Columbus Lands in Central America
Christopher Columbus had landed in North America on his voyage in 1492 trying to find a faster trade route to Asia from Europe instead of sailing around Africa. The significance of this event was he believed that he had landed in the Indies so he called the natives indians. This helped inspire more explorers to come explore the whole "New World" they had discovered. -
Jamestown Colony is the First English Settlement
Jamestown was sponsered by the Virgina Company, they believed they could earn major profit of Jamestown. The significance of the establishment of Jamestown was it was the first succcesful New England colony. It was also one of the first colonies to establish a representative governmnet, which led to other colonies switching to this type of government. -
Founding of House of Burgesses
The founding of the House of Burgesses was the first legislative assembly of elected representatives in North America. This was significant beacuse it was the first form of elective governmnet which would later be a example to what our government looks like today. -
Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact was signed aboard the ship the Mayflower and was signed by sepratists leaving Europe for religious persucution. The significance of the Mayflower Compact was it opened up the possiblity of self government within the colonies. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was signed at the ending of the Seven Years War with Great Britain, Portugal, France and Spain after the defeat of France in North Americaa. The significance of this event was it made Great Britain in total control of the eastern area of North America. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was put into place to stop Pontiacs Rebellion and settle the conflict with the Natives and give them lands west of the Applachians. Making the colonists not able to settle their. This resluted in rage and anger for the colonists and became a factor leading to revolution. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened because colonists were abusing some British troops on guard and one of the British troops open fired on the colonists killing many of them. The significance of this event was the colonists were very upset and was the tipping point and the colonists wanted freedom. -
Lexington and Concord
The battle of Lexington and Concord was the first battle of the American Revolutionary War. The British were trying to seize a arms cache from the Militias and battle broke out. The significance of this event was it was the first battle of the Revolutionary War and it started and triggered battles throughout the colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress declaring war and independence from Great Britian,The siginifance of this event was it started the Revolutionary War and began Americas goal of independence which later prevailed. -
Battle of Yorktown
The Continental Army led by George Washington attacked the last of British forces led by General Cornwallis at the town of Yorktown, Virgina. The significance of this event was the Continental Army won making the British surrender and winning the Revolutionary war for the Americans,
