Battle at Lexington
700 British troops arrived in Lexington and met with 77 militiamen gathered on the town green. A shot was fired and the Battle began. When it was over eight militiamen were dead, nine injured and only one Redcoat was injured. -
Battle at Concord
After Lexington the British moved on towards Concord in search of weapons. Most of the weapons had been relocated, British troops burned what they found but the fire got out of control. Militiamen thought they were burning the town, They hurried to the North Bridge, which was defended by soldiers, the British fired first but fell back when the colonists returned fire. -
The Battle at Bunker Hill
2,200 British troops landed on the Charlestown Peninsula then marched to Breeds Hill. The Americans had limited ammo, they were told "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!". After the British were close enough, the colonists unleashed a barrage of musket fire. The Americans ran out of ammo just as the British reinforcments had arrived and after awhile the British had won the battle. -
The Battle at New York
British troops invaded New York with 24,00 soldiers and 330 ships with 10,000 sailors. General George Washington's new army is out maneuvered and defeated. -

The enemy force was numbered 1,400. Washington divided his men, sending flanking columns under each enemy general's forces, and had an advantage. He won the battle -

Battle at Saratoga
This battlle was fought eighteen days apart in the fall, This was a turning point in the American revolution. On September 19th, British General John Burgoyne achieved a small, but costly victory over American forces led by Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold. Though his troop strength had been weakened, Burgoyne again attacked the Americans at Bemis Heights on October 7th, but this time was defeated and forced to retreat. -

Battle at Yorktown
On this day General Washington commanding 17,000 French and American troops begins a siege agaisnt the Bristish General Lord Cornallis and his 9,000 troops. Washington ordered Marquis de Lafayette and an American army of 5,000 troops to block Cornwallis' escape from Yorktown by land while the French naval fleet blocked the British escape by sea. By September 28, Washington had completely encircled Cornwallis and Yorktown with the combined forces of Continental and French troops. -
