Jefferson was in charge of writing this document. It stated that they have right to gain their independence from Britain. Also, that all men are equal. -
Battles of Trent and New Jersey
This was a smaller battle taking place during the American Revolutionary war. George Washington and his group won the battles which was very important. This was because it allowed America to control more land and improved armies. -
State Constitutions
This changed how a lot of places ran their government. Also a lot of rules and laws were made and changed. And there were requirements people had to follow in order to run the jobs within the government. -
Howe captures Philadelphia
Howe was hoping to destroy the Continental Army for once. Since Philadelphia was the capital and the place the Congress met this was Howe's target. The British won the battle due to having a bigger army. -
American and British Battle of Saratoga
The British surrendered because they much of their command was captured. America needed this win due to them losing the fight before this. America gained allies because of this win. -
Articles of Confederation
This was the first written constitution of the United States. The states were all independent because of this document. But after this the congress was given was allowed to make allies. -
Congress prohibits enslaved people imported to the US
They ended the international slave trade. So they were not allowed to import any slaves from outside of the U.S. -
Winter at Valley Forge
George Washington moved his army to Valley Forge. They all were suffering from cold and hunger. They did not have much food and many people fell sick at the camp. Most people were in terrible condition at Valley Forge. -
Spain Declares war on Great Britain
Spain would not become allies with America, but would with Spain. So they joined together to take down Britain. Britain was allies with America. -
John Paul Jones & Serapis
John killed a sailor to try to end mutiny and then he fled to avoid getting caught. He later became a lieutenant in the navy. The Serapis was a boat they used to fight with. -
British forces capture Charles Town
They began to attack the city. The killed many people. -
British surrender at Yorktown
This was the last large battle of the Revolutionary war. The British surrendered after Washington and his army had completed surrounded them. -
Treaty of Paris
This officially ended the Revolutionary War. British gave recognition for America gaining its independence. Also, both countries got equal rights to many things.
