After the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinant, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Germany joined, backing up Austria-Hungary. Russia defended Serbia, and since France was allied with Russia, they also joined the war. -
Lusitania Sunk
The Lusitania, a US passanger ship, was sunk by a German submarine (U-20). 1,198 people died, and 128 of them were American. Still, the US did not enter the war. -
