The Warsaw Pact is the informal name of the mutual defense of Treat Of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance also known as the Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw Pact is subscribed or joined by 8 communist states in Eastern Europe. -
Vietnam Conflict
The Vietnam Conflict or War began after the U.S. entered the conflict between North and South Vietnam, to keep the South from going communist. The two main groups the U.S. were fighting was North Vietnam, a more traditional army and the Viet Cong, a guirella army. -
Berlin Wall
On Saturday August 12th, 1961 Ulbricht signed the order to close the border between east and west Berlin and erect a wall. This wall seperated all East Berlin citizens from entering West Berlin in an attempt to restore order and communism and isolate away from the Western World. -
Communist Cuba and Missle Crisis
In the 1950s, Fidel Castro organized an armed rebellion against the corrupt dictator who ruled Cuba. Fidel Castro then took power in 1959 after taking his gurrilla army to victory and transformed the country. In 1961, President John. F Kennedy supported an invasion attempt by U.S.-trained Cuban Exiles. The Bay of Pigs invasion quickly ended when Castro's forces captured invading forces. In the summer of 1962, the U.S. learned that the Soviet Union was shipping nuclear missles to Cuba. -
Nuclear Arms Race and Détente
In 1949, the Soviet Union had developed Nuclear weapons also, and by 1953 both sides had hydrogen bombs. In 1969, the US and Soviet Union began Strategic Arms Limitations Talks (SALT). One of these agreements limited the use of anti-ballistic missiles, missles that could shoot down other missiles from hostile countries. America and the Soviet Union reached a Détente in the 1970s and it lasted until 1979. -
Soviets In Afghanistan
The Soviets came to Afghanistan hoping to spread communism, and taking religion out of it, but the people of Islam thought it was their religious duty to destroy any one who wants to destroy their religion, so they declared a Jihad, or Holy War. Islam Mujahideen, or Holy Warriors came from all around the world to fight the Soviet army, and they won. The U.S. smuggled weapons to the Mujahideen, which they still use today. -
Eastern Europe Indepence
After the Soviets were defeated in Afghanistan, Much of Eastern Europe fell out of the control of the Soviets, most notibly being the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The border of Austria was lifted also. -
Soviet Union Falls
The fall of the Soviet Union came after the defeat in Afghanistan. The Soviet Union lost many of the countries it controlled, including East Berlin. After the War, the economy declined, and prices sky rocketed.
