Democritus
He discovered that all matter was made of indivisible particles called atoms. (335 B.C.; Greek Era) -
John Dalton
He proposed his atomic theory with sperical solid atoms. -
J.J.Thomson
He discovered the mass of an electron 1.759 x 108. He also studied canal rays and found that they were associated with the proton H+. Proton H is usefull in the production of ammonia. -
Neils Bohr
Bohr developed his atomc structure :his atomic model had an atom mad of orbital shells of electrons. -
Schrodinger
In his atomic theory, electrons were a continuous cloud. He also introduced 'wave mechanics' as the mathmatical atom model. -
J. Cockcroft
Cockcroft recieved a Nobel Prize for successfully splitting the atomic nucleus. It was later used at the main 'tool' for the developement of nuclear power. -
Chadwick
He used alpha particles and discovered a neutral atomic particle thats mass was close to that of a proton. Thus discovering the neutron. -
WWII: Nuclear Race
The stress of the war brought on a 'competition of weapons': the nuclear race. A scientist, Cockcroft, split the atomic nucleus and advanced the world in nuclear power. -
Enrico Fermi
He recieved a Nobel Prize for demonstration the exsistence of radioactive elements by producing neutron irradiation. Radioactive materials are now used to treat and diagnose some specific diseases. -
New Elements: Radioactive
In the midst of the war, there was a need for radioactive power to advance to weapon/medical fields. Enrico Fermi was the scientist who demonstrated the exsistence of radioactive elements. -
J. Oppenheimer
J. Oppenheimer led the scientist of the "Manhattan Project" to the creation of the atomic bomb that ended the war. It was later discovered that nuclear power can be used for space travel. -
WWII: Atomic Bomb
The United States had to end the war and the conclusion was major weapons so the Japanese would surrender. This led to the atomic bomb which was dropped on two Japan citites. -
Ernest Rutherford
He discovered that the nucleus was dense, small, and positively charged. He hypothesized that the electron was located outside of the nucleus.
