Stock Market Crash
People put to much loan money in the market. Then most of them tried to take it out casuing the value of stocks to decrease. The stock market crash was the main reason of the great depression because there just wasn't any money left for the economy and no one could make any money. The stock market crash later lead to the great depression throughout the 1930's. -
First Concentration Camp
Dachau, certainly not the most famous concentration camp but it was the first one bulit by the Germans. Located just 10 milies northwest of Munich, this camp paved the war for many others just like it. These camps are where many Jewish people took their last steps. This first camp was the first of many others and later lead to the Holocost. -
Hitler Named Chancellor
Hitler was appointed Chancellor by President Hindenburg. Hitler started to gain followers with his great speaches and Hitlers prrganda posters blaming the Jews for Germany's troubles. People jumped on the idea right away. Hitler gaining power was the first step towards WWII and the first step towards the Holocost. -
On to Ottawa Trek
By this time, the depression was very serious in Canada and the government had opened relief camps for those who were in desparate need of food and shelter. However, some felt they weren't being treated fairly. A group of people from British Columbia road trains, walked, anything to complete the cross country trek to see the Prime Minister and confront him about these relief camps. The Ottawa Trek later lead to the Regina Riots. -
The Riots in Regina
After the Prime Minister blocked the Trekkers from moving any closer Ottawa (On to Ottawa Trek), the people were stopped in Regina where they still had their hearts set on making it to Ottawa. The Prime Minister and his representitives met with some of the Trekker's leaders in Regina but after the meeting went sour, a great riot broke out between the Trekker's and the RCMP officers. There were 120 arrests, 39 injuries, and 2 left dead. The great depression was casuing all this. -
King Re-Elected as Prime Minister
Makenzie King elected again to be Canada's Prime Minister to help with the great depression and solve all the problems. However, he was in a very difficult position having to deal with the all the angry Canadians because of the great depression, while worrying about the looming great war that might happen over in Europe. -
Munich Agreement
The Munich Agreement was between European powerhouses Britain, Italy, France, and Germany which allowed Germany to take over Sudetenland in exchange for Adolf Hitler's promise not to invade any European countries. Appeasement was on of the major things invovled in the road to WWII and this was exactly that. -
Germany Invades Poland
Germany starts the war basically by invading Poland. The Polish troops were defeated quickly by being surprised by the attack. Germany had 2000 tanks over 1000 planes to help them on their invasion of Poland. Hitler begins his world domination plan. -
Britain and France Declar War
2 days after Germany had invaded Poland, Britain and France join the war and declar war on the Germans. WWII was in full swing. -
Canada Declars War and the Role of Canadian Women in the War
Canada now felt it had to go to the war and for the first time, independantly declared war on the Germans. Women also played a huge role in the war whether it was rationing items back at the home front or it was working in factories but also over in Europe where many women worked as Nurses. -
Holocost, The Final Plan
Even though there is no real date when the Holocost started, by 1941, the concentration camps and the killing of the Jewish people was in full swing. This lasted until 1945. This was known as Germany's Final plan to eliminate all Jewish people from the Europe. -
VE Day
VE days or victory in Europe day is the day when the Germans finally surrendered to the allied forces. Hitler had also committed suicide. -
The Atomic Age Begins
The first of two atomic bombs were dropped on twi different Japanese cities. The first was on HIroshima. Over 80 000 people died instantly while another 100 000 people later would die because of the aftermath. A couple days later another American plane dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Another 40 000 died instanly and another 100 000 due to the afermath. A couple days later, Japan would surrender known as VJ day.
