First Underground Railway Open
The Metropolitan Railway opens the world's first underground railway system, resulting in an easy and quick way to travel London through the additions of stations and the completion of the circle line. This also led to technology similar to the Oyster card and the Travelcard. The first conglomerate sports league was the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players in 1871. This unified different sports teams and made leagues more possible to play teams from different states and across the United States. World's First Hydroelectric Plant Opens
The first hydroelectric plant began operation on the Fox River in Appleton, Wisconsin. This event led to a nationwide sharing of the operations of hydroelectric plants in order to provide electricity to different cities and homes all over the United States. After Alfred Noble died, he left his wealth to create a board of members that would designate a winner each year in different categories.
