Holocaust
On January 30, 1933 Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany and on May 9, 1945 Germany surrenders to the Soviets.The Holocaust was the Genocide of Jews and others by the Nazis. These people were stripped of their rights and many were sent labor camps and concentration camps. Linked are some examples of survivor's stories.

Nuremberg Race Laws
These laws defined what a "Jew" was and sripped Jews of citizenship. Along with many other laws it banned relationships between Jews and non-Jews -
Kristallnacht
November 9/10, 1938. This even was a Nazi attact on Jews. 1,00- 2,00 synagues, 96 Jews were killed, and 7,500 businesses were damanged. Also the Jews were fined 1 billion Marks for the damage. -

Germany invades Poland starting WWII in Europe -
Auschwitz
Auschwitz was the largest concentration camp the Nazis made. The estimated deaths were 2.1 to 2.5 million killed in gas chambers and about 330,000 deaths from other causes. -

This shooting of Jews began on July 6, 1941. At the end Einsatzgruppen killed 1.4 million Jews. -
Wannsee Conference and The Final Souliton
The Wanasee Conference was held to coordinate the Final Solution, The Final Solution was the Nazi's plan to exterminate all Jews in Europe. -
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
German athorities murdered or deported around 300,00o Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. -
Death March
The death march of almost 60,000 prisoners form Auschwitz. -
Battle for the Remagen Bridge
This event took place during March and it is known as the beginning of the end of WW II in the west of the German Reich. In this event the Germans were unsuccessful in destroying the bridge. This allowed the Americans to cross the bridge. On March 17, 1945 the bridge collapsed and sank into the Rhine however this did not hinder the Americans ability to cross the river. -
Death of President Roosevelt
When president Roosevelt died, Harry Truman took over as President of the United States of America. Up until this point, Truman didn't know about the manhattan project and the possibility of an atomic bomb. He was left with the decision to make about whether to use the Atomic Bomb or not and if so how and where. -
Liberation of Dachau
The American forces liberate Dachau. -
Death of Hitler
Hitler committed suicide by taking poison and shooting himself in the head. Otto Guensche, an SS officer, and Heinz Linge first discovered Hitler and Eva Braun’s (Hitler's wife) bodies. “When I entered to my left I saw Hitler on the sofa,” said Linge “Hitler had his head bent forward somewhat and I could see a bullet hole approximately the size of a penny on the right side of the temple.” -

Victory in Europe day also known as VE day marked the Allies victory in Europe during WWII. -
Potsdam Conference
The "Big Three" leaders met at Potsdam, Germany, near Berlin during the last days of the WWII. Heads of state, President Truman, Joseph Stalin and British Prime Ministers Churchill and Atlee discussed post-war arrangements in Europe, frequently without agreement. Future moves in the war against Japan were also covered. One result of the conference was the "Potsdam Declaration" which stated Japan must immediately agree to unconditionally surrender, or face "prompt and utter destruction." -

Elbe River
The Allies pushed the German Army to the east bank of the Elbe River; splitting Germany in half. This was one of the last battles in the war and at this point Allied victory was evident. -

After the Atomic Bomb was dropped on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan felt the need to take the Allies Unconditional Surrender, and the war finally ended in Japan. -
Hitler Officially Dead
In a courtroom in Berchtesgaden Hitler was officially declared dead. -
