The starting dates and ending dates of when this actually happened are unknown, but I know that every event that happens, even if it isn't on the right date is very important to the development of the computer. -
The First Electric - Digital Computer is invented
This was a huge milestone in the process of making the computer what it is today. This made it possible for computers to be faster, and make them more dependable. -
The Transistor was invented
Transistors replaced the vaccum tubes inside the computer, making it so that the computer perform the same functions and use less power. This is really important because now we didn't have to worry about bulky tubes and just had to work with a few transistors inside of our computer. -
The Invention of the UNIVAC Computer
The UNIVAC computer was the first commercial computer that was able to pick presidential candidate winners. This is a big milestone because it is enables computers to work rationally and to be able to help humans with big problems and decisions. -
Invention of the FORTRAN Computer Programming Language
FORTRAN was the first high tech programming language invented for the computer. It is used for programming scientific and mathmatical applications. This is important because it is starting to become a language that both humans and computers can understand, making it easier for more people be able to use computers much better. -
The Integrated Circuit or "The Chip" is invented
The integrated chip made it so that all of the components needed to make a computer work were all on one chip, and not in a bunch of different pieces. This made it so computers became even better, and a little smaller and in need of less parts. -
The game SpaceWar becomes the first computer game ever invented
It wasn't neccessarily the very first computer game ( two lesser known games precceeded it ), but it was the first game to become really popular. This started a huge breakthrough in computer programs that really helped in developing the computer. -
The Computer Mouse and Windows are invented
The version of Windows that was invented didn't work well, but that would be fixed later. But the mouse was a huge success. It made it so that the user of the computer could interact personally with the computer. This was a huge milestone for the computer. Now the user would easily be able to do what they would like to easier on the computer because they wouldn't have to type the commands in now. -
Intel 1103 - Invention of the world's first dynamic RAM chip
When Intel invented the first RAM chip, it was a huge jump from what had been containing the memory of the computer until then. This is a big milestone because now we could store tons more memory than we were, so we could put even more programs on computers to make them even better. -
The Apple Macintosh Computer is invented
This was proabably the biggest milestone for computers, except for the Z1. The Apple Macintosh was now the smallest computer ever made, and could be purchased by anyone who could get one. It was the best thing that ever happened to computers. Without this computer, we would not be were we are today with the technology.
