First Spacecraft Reaches Saturn
The first spacecraft to reach Saturn was Pioneer 11 in 1979, flying within 13,700 miles (22,000 kilometers) of it, which discovered the planet's two of its outer rings as well as the presence of a strong magnetic field. -

Saturns' North pole
The band of cloud near the North Pole was discovered by D. A Godfrey to be not smoothly going round, but forming a hexagon round the North Pole. This is called Godfrey's kinky current. Its appearance might possibly be caused by electrical fields, due to the axis of Saturn's magnetic field being aligned almost exactly with its rotation axis. -

Great Annual White Cloud
Formed by heat welling from inside Saturn, the annual white cloud of thunderstorms on Saturn is revealed again (about every 30 of our years). Pictured in July 2011, when it was estimated to be nearly 11,000 miles wide with winds up to 100 metres per second. The white clouds are mostly ammonia. This storm was first noticed in December 2010, and since then has grown in size to trail around Saturn. -
