Yates Mill
Began operating in 1756 and is one of the few historic mills left in NC and one of the oldest buildings. The Yates family operated the mill from 1863 - 1947. It was later sold to NC State University and is now a historic park. -
North Carolina Capitol Building
The NC Capitol building is the main government house in North Carolina. One of the best preserved Greek Revival-style buildings. At one point it held all of the governing offices for NC. Made a National Historic Landmark in 1973 -
Dortothea Dix Hospital
Origionally called the "Insane Hospital", Social reformer Dorothea L. Dix, worked for better care of the mentally ill. She created this hospital after seeing how the mentally ill were treated in jails and other hospitals. Durring the civil war Union soldiers camped on the hospitals property after taking over Raleigh. -
Camp Magnum
Camp Mangum was a Confederate soldier training and recruitment location. This location is now the state fairgrounds, N.C. State University Faculty Club, School of Veterinary Science and the N.C. Museum of Art. -
Fall of Raleigh
Raleigh was captured by the Union soldiers during the civil war. This pushed the confereretes west leading to the end of the Civil war. -
