Boston Massacre
English soilders killed five and injured six hostile Boston citizens who opposed the Townshend acts. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonial citizens threw boxes of tea overboard because they opposed the tax o tea. -
The Intolerable Acts
This act allowed some people to be tried in England, quartering for British soilders, and allowed the King to appoint the Governor's counsel instead of electing them. -
First Continental Congress
All colonies except Georgia met in Philadelphia to discuss problems in the colonies. They sent King George III a letter saying they were loyal to him but these problems needed to be fixed. They refused to trade with England until they could govern themselves. -
Second Continental Congress
All the colonies met in Philadelphia and created a Continental Army. They made George Washington Commander-in-Chief. -
Declaration of Independence
A document declaring the US to be independent of the British Crown was signed on July 4, 1776, by the congressional representatives of the 13 Colonies. -

Delaware is the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution. -
