Fredonian Rebellion
Haden and Benjamin Edwards revolt and try to create their own country called Fredonia. The Mexican troops and Stephen F. Austin's militia go to Nacodoches to put an end to it. The Edwards brothers flee from the scene and are never found. -

Mier y Teran said that the trade with the US should be discouraged more and that Mexico should encourage more Mexicans and Europeans to settle in Texas. He also said that Mexico should send soldiers over there so that they would be more in control. -

The law banned all US immigration, banned anymore slaves, canceled any unfufilled empresarion grants and placed a customs duty of goods from the US. -

Stephen F. Austin wrote a letter to the Texan settlers, but it was intercepted and read by a Mexican. He had wrote bad things about the Mexican government, so he was thrown into the Mexican prison. -

Santa Anna Takes Over Mexican Government
Santa Anna took over the Mexican government from president Vincente Guerrero. Baustamante's execution angered many Mexicans and Guerrero was part of the firing squad. Santa Anna was one of the first to complain and by the end of the year, Guerrero was removed from office. -

Convention of 1833
Delegates met in San Felipe for the Convention. About 56 delegates came to the Convention. The delegates came up with things they wanted changed, like prohibiting African slave traffic. Just like the Convention in 1832, San Antonio did not come. -

The Mexican side came to take the cannon that the Texans were keeping. The Texans replied with, "Come and take it." The Mexicans tried to take the cannon, but the Texans shot it and the Mexicans fled. -

Several Texans started to leave the fight, because many had jobs to do and no fighting was being down. The Texans also humiliated themselves during the "Grass Fight." General Cos's troops were in great confusion and low on supplies. The Texans attakced on December 5th. General Cos raised a white flag and agreed to give all money adn supplies of teh Mexicans to the Texans. -

The Texans had a 13 day siege on the Alamo. The Mexicans outnumbered the Texans 10 to 1. The Texans did not have a chance, but they still fought to their death. Santa Anna easily defeated the Texans and claimed the Alamo. Santa Anna would not take prisoners. He killed all of the remaining survivors in the Alamo. -

With very little time, the delegates of the Convention of 1836 wrote the Declaration of Independence. It prepared a constitution for the newly formed Republic. -

Massacre at Goliad
At Goliad, Fannin and his 350 men attacked. 60 Texans were killed and many others wounded. The Texans surrendered, thinking that they could go back home. They were taken prisoners. Santa Anna heard about their capture and was not pleased that they hadn't been killed. Santa Anna ordered for all of the Goliad prisoners to be executed. They were all masacred. -

This was when the Texans fled their homes when Santa Anna came. The trip was hard with the weather, hunger and thirst. When the Texans returned to their homes, many had no home left. Santa Anna and his army destroyed anything in their way. -

Battle at San Jacinto
750 Texans were fighting against 1500 Mexican soldiers. Sam Houston sent Deaf Smith to destroy the bridge that the Mexicans had crossed over. He did this because then the Mexican's only escape route would be gone. The Texans shouted, "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Goliad." 700 Mexicans were killed adn 730 were taken prisoner. Texas had won the battle. -

The Texans won, killing many Mexicans and taking the rest prisoners. The Mexicans had about 2 times as many soldiers as the Texans, but the Texans defeated them. Treaties of Valesco
The two treaties were negotiated by Santa Anna and commander of forces. This was about 3 weeks after Santa Anna's capture by the Texans. The second treaty stated that Santa Anna would be released if Texas could become an independent state. Both parties violated the treaties. The Texas army blocked Santa Anna's release and the Mexican government declared void all of Santa Anna's acts while in captivity. -

Texas won. Texas became an independent state. The border was loosely established. Lorenzo De Zavala: I am very happy for the Texans.
