Katie publishes her first of two children's books and it quickly rises on the New York Time's best seller list where it stays for three straight weks. -
On-Air Colonoscopy
katie current undergoes and on-air colonoscaopy to riase awarness about colon cancer. It was filmed for and aired on the Today Show. This followed a televised campaign started by Couric. As an effect, the number of colonoscapys in the Uinted States increased. This became known as the "Kaite effect." Years later, her CBS co-worker harry Smith also had an on-air colonoscopy with the help and support of Couric. -
Sister's Tragic End
Emily Couric Cancer Center Katie's sister,Emily, a United States senator, died of pancreatic cancer. Couric gave a eulogy at the funeral stated that she was honored to be the sibling of such a great woman. Her sister's early passing further contributed to Katie's fight against cancer. Emily now has a cancer center in Virginia named after her. -
Growing Career with NBC
Katie signs a four and a half year contract with NBCand becomes the highest paid television personality. She now hosts the Today show and has the freedom to expand and host other NBC produced shows. -
