Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School

Ownership Change
Congress passes a grant that changes the ownership of all buldings and land owned by the Mount Pleasant Indian School from the federal to the state governement. In exchange for the buildings, Indian children were allowed to attend public schools. Clark Historical Library -
Transformed into a hospital

Attempted Renovations
Renovations were made to the crumbling Mount Pleasant Center, still operating as a Michigan hospital. -
Mount Pleasant Center Closes Its Doors
The Mount Pleasant Center Closes its doors for good. Auctions are later held, selling off equipment and scrap. -
Property Sold to the City
A law was signed into effect, allowing the State of Michigan to sell the property to the City of Mount Pleasant for $1. Two portions were eventually sold to Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe along with the majority of the property to the city in 2011.
