Britain denied the Transvaal republicanism created by the Boers in the past. This was met with a rebellion against the British that led to the short lived war. Within 2 years Transvaal is a republic again.

The British had goals of unifying South Africa under their rule. The Transvaal people and the Orange Free State people still wanted independence.Gold was also discovered in the area, which increased European interst. The war ended in less than 3 years with each state as self-governing British colonies.

Cape Colony, Natal, Transvaal and the Orange Free State formed the union of South Africa, when they broke away from the rule of the British.

The act was passed by the white minority government as a form of descrination against the aboriginal people of the area. It limited the majority of the population to owning only 7% of the land in South Africa. It laid the frameworks for what would later become the infamous Apartheid.
