Buck is kidnapped by Manuel and is sold to dog traders.
Buck was living in Santa Clara Valley, CA with his master in a very large estate. He was "living the life". But when the gold rush came up, a gardener's helper named Manuel exchanged Buck for a handsome amount of money. The man with the red sweater taught Buck how to be obidient and follow directions.Whenever Buck tried or refused to do whatever he was told, he was beat. This showed Buck how he was going to be living as a sled dog. -
Curly, a dog that was on the boat with Buck, gets killed by a pack of violent dogs.
When Buck got on the ferry, he met a dog named Curly. When Curly got off the boat and friendly confronted a pack of dogs, they fiercly attacked and killed her. This was a major wake-up call for Buck. He vowed not to let anything happen to him like what happen to Curly. This is a foreshadowing of Buck and his new life as a sled dog. There will be a lot of violence and killing. -
Buck sees snow for the first time in his life.
After The Man in the Red Sweater beats Buck, He goes onto the deck. He became wary because he saw white, freezing cold, soft material. It later turned out later to be snow. This is an important event in the novella because it shows the change in the setting in the novel. It changes from a sunny mansion to a freezing cold ship. -
Buck becomes the property fo Perrault and Francois and starts adjusting to life as a sled dog.
Buck is picked up by Perrualt and goes on a ship. This is how Buck meets Curly. Then, Buck is joined by Dave and his future enemy, Spitz. Buck also realizes that the weather is getter a lot colder. When they arrive at the North, something unfortunate happens. Curly is attacked by a pack of vicious, violent dogs. This is when Buck privatly vowed not to let anything happen to him as what happened to Curly. This is also when Buck decides that he hates Spitz since he was "amused" by Curly's doom. -
Buck learns how to live in the wild and fights with Spitz.
Buck is learning how to life in his new life. When he was trying to find a place to sleep, it was very hard to do. The tents were forbidden and the top of the snow was unbearably cold.
He saw Billee underneath the snow, sleeping like a comfortable. baby cub. So he does the same thing and sleeps like a baby. -
When Buck wins against Spitz, Hal decides to harness in Sol-leks into the lead position.
I personally think this is a big moment for Buck. The day after Buck finally kills Spitz, Hal notices Spitz missing and Buck being wounded. When Buck walks to where Spitz used to be, Hal harnesses in Sol-leks instead. Buck here shows his newfound sense of leadership. Hal finally realizes that Buck thinks because of his victory over Spitz, he deserves to be head of the pack. -
When Buck and the pack are traded to Hal, Charles, and Mercedes, it is a diaster.
The pack is traded to the trio of Hal, Charles, and Mercedes. It was a really bad time period for them. First, they ran out of food.
Then, continuously, all the dogs were beat many times. Finally, the sled that they were pulling was very much overloaded. Even when they cut off half of the load and Charles buys 6 more dogs, they still travel very slowly.
After a while, they stop at John Thorton's Camp...... -
Buck meets John Thorton when he warns Hal and Charles of the melting ice and about crossing it.
When the pack arrives at John Thorton's camp, that is the first time Buck meets him. Charles, Hal were about to cross the frozen lake. But John advises them not to because of the thin ice. Hal decides to anyway but buck refuses to move.After Hal was beating him for a while, John saves Buck by stopping Buck, undoing his harness, and taking him from Hal, and Mercedes. While John was making sure that buck was okay, the trio wen ahead onto the ice. Soon, they all disappear into the deep, dark water. -
John Thorton officially becomes Buck's master and Buck is absolutely loyal to him.
After John saves Buck, he becomes loyal to him. He joins John's sled team as well. Since John froze his feet the last summer, he and his team had to wait until the river melts in order to cross it. To test Buck's loyalty, John told Buck to jump off the cliff but stopped him when he was about to. -
Buck wins money for John.
After Buck saves John at the bar, he brags to a man who got very wealthy from mining gold in the Klondike. He says that Buck can haul a 1,000 lb sled of flour. Buck, out of pure love, accomplishes this task. This gains John $1600 which helps him pay his debts. -
Buck goes deep into a forest to search for lost mine with John.
Buck feels the Call of the Wild more than ever when he goes with Thorton and his crew deep into the Canadian forest to search for a lost mine. While John is searching for the mine, Buck wanders aroung in the woods. He hunts for food like mice and moose. He also befriends a wolf who wil lateryou will se again. But he still comes to Joh at the end of the day. -
John Thorton is killed by Yeehat Indians.
After Buck comes back from one of his adventures, he finds
John Thorton and his crew dead. They were killed by Yeehat
Indians. Buck immediatly attacks and kills most of them. Some
of them got away. The Yeehats now forever live in fear of Buck.They also start calling the Ghost Dog. -
Buck becomes the leader of a pack in the wild.
Buck goes back into the wild after Thorton's death. He rejoins
his friend that he made when he was hunting the woods.
He leads him to a pack of wolves. They try and test him by attacking him. Four of them try but they all fail. Soon after that, he becomes the alpha dog. -
Buck becomes a legendary figure.
The Yeehats tell of an evil spirit that dwells where John
Thorton died. They also notice a noticeable change in the breed of timberwolves. Bucks becomes a legendary figure when he becomes the father to several cubs. The Yeehats scarred with fear when they remember what Buck did to them.
