Osama Bin Laden and his crew attacked the twin towers on September 11, 2001. The Taliban crashed planes into the twin towers. New York City was in complete ruins. -

The United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom. Us and many other countries fought to overthrow the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The Taliban is a Muslim group who took control over most of Afghanistan. Al-Qaeda is a terrorist organization in Afghanistan. -
Mohammed Atef killed
Mohammed Atef was the military cheif of Al-Qaeda. In 1996, Abu Ubaidah al-Banshiri, Al-Qaeda's leader drowned and Mohammed took his place. He was killed in a U.S. airstrike. -
Bin Laden escapes
US army was trying to kill/capture. Bin Laden escaped to somewhere around Pakistan by horse. Many were killed at the battle that lasted two weeks but Bin Laden got away. -
An end to the fighting?
Donald Remsfeld, Secretary of Defense announces an end to major combat fighting in Afghanistan. Smaller scale attacks such as building to building, slowing down a bit. -

Afghanistan ratifies a Consitution, becoming more powerful. -
Bin Laden talks
Osama Bin Laden comes out to confess about 9/11 after hiding for almost three years. He took "credit" for bombing the twin towers on 9/11. -
More troops
Barack Obama makes an announcement saying he will be sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan. -
