    Rich Tradition from the Start
Hillwood Academic Day School started small and has stayed small, intentionally. The school was designed to offer families an affordable option for quality academics in San Francisco. Classroom hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and tuition (including the cost of extended care from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a hot lunch daily) is $700 per month ($7,000 annually).

From the start, Hillwood Academic Day School has called San Francisco's Pacific Heights home. Our program includes choral music, foreign languages, art, and recess at the neighborhood park. The integrated curriculum emphasizes math skills, English and language arts, as well as science, history/social studies. We currently teach Spanish as a second language to all grades, kindergarten through eighth grade.

One of the great benefits of Hillwood is the school's Outdoor Education Program, which includes access to a camp and lodge in Muir Woods during June and July. During the summer of 2008, a family of spotted owls set up camp at the lodge.

  • Student Mentors

    Student Mentors
With its small size and ability to offer individual attention to students, Hillwood combines grades as a way to both challenge and mentor students. The approach also helps foster the school's family environment.
  • First-Hand Experience

    First-Hand Experience
Mr. Eric Grantz is Hillwood's director. As the grandson of Mrs. Libra and an alumnus of Hillwood, he continues the school%u2019s tradition of providing a nurturing environment so that all students can thrive. Assisted by San Franciscan native Mrs. Gayle Grantz and a dedicated, trained staff, the school works to educate every child to be an academically successful student and a socially responsible citizen.
  • Life After Hillwood

    Life After Hillwood
Hillwood's students go on to attend some of San Francisco's top high schools, including Sacred Heart, Lowell, Drew, Convent, and Gateway. Despite the school's small size, Hillwood graduates have strong confidence and speaking skills in large settings. Hillwood may be small, but its staff works to prepare students for a life filled with a love of life-long learning.
